Finnair just announced its new winter schedule to Lapland and Northern Norway, increasing flights to Rovaniemi, the official hometown of Santa Claus, by 26 percent. As demand for travel to the Nordic nations continues to rise, Finnair will offer up to 63 flights a week between Helsinki and Rovaniemi.
Travelers heading to Rovaniemi can now choose from flights departing as often as every 30 minutes during peak periods, giving Finnair a unique shuttle service for this destination.
In addition to increased flights to Santa’s hometown, Finnair also boosts connections to Northern Norway. The airline’s popular polar route between Rovaniemi and Tromsø, the gateway to the Northern Lights, will increase from twice per week to six times per week.
International customers can fly into Helsinki and add stopovers to these two famous Arctic cities before returning home via Helsinki.
“With more Americans than ever searching for Santa and an authentic Arctic adventure, we are incredibly excited to be adding more flights to Lapland and Northern Norway for the upcoming winter season,” said Pasi Kuusisto, general manager, North America, Finnair. “From chasing the Northern Lights to high-speed husky sledding, Finland and Northern Norway have a lot to offer, and we know these extra flights will prove popular with customers.
Finnair is currently the only airline offering this connection above the Arctic Circle. The airline offers direct flights to Helsinki from Chicago (ORD), Dallas (DFW), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), New York (JFK) and Seattle (SEA).
