The American Southwest is home to some of the country’s most impressive and inspiring landscapes with Arizona topping the list of must-see caves and canyons. But it’s not just the Grand Canyon that demands attention; the entire state is packed with these natural beauties. From Mesa’s famous Wind Cave atop Pass Mountain in the south-central region to the impossible artistry of Antelope Canyon near the northern Arizona border (and even Monument Valley just across the border in Utah), Arizona’s rocky landscapes have enticed explorers for generations.
When you’re ready to make your own pilgrimage to this natural wonderland, you’ll certainly want to see the world-famous Grand Canyon and nearby Horseshoe Bend, exploding in popularity with the new generation of Insta-obsessed travelers, but you’d be remiss not to include the other highlights spanning the state. Arizona is no small state, so consider hiring a tour operator to cover these great distances for you and provide meaningful insight along the way.
Detours American West offers fully customizable itineraries through the state (and its neighbors) that can assist with the caves and canyons tour of your most adventurous dreams. Guided tours can accommodate a variety of group sizes (including just one or two!) and durations depending on your specific needs, and can be tailored to individual interests.
To understand the historic and cultural significance of many of the caves and canyons you’ll discover on your journey, choose Detours Native America, a Native-owned and -guided division of Detours that provides deeper context and a more intimate connection to Native cultures while revealing an American history largely swept under the rug. There’s no truer way to connect with these natural monuments than through the stories of those who called them home for centuries.
