Art Galleries in Amsterdam

The Dutch capital is home to a great selection of art galleries. Here are some of the top names.

Rijksmuseum may have recently been shut for 10 years during renovation work, but Amsterdam’s most important gallery is now back open for business. You can expect to see Rembrandts and works from a number of other Old Masters.

The Van Gogh Museum houses more of the artist’s works than any other gallery in the world, including famous paintings such as “Sunflowers” and “Wheatfield with Crows.” Check the listings to see if there are any special exhibitions on when you visit.

Another recently renovated gallery, the Stedelijk Museum houses the Amsterdam municipal art collection. Its 20^th-century works are most impressive thanks to a policy of buying work from local artists before they reached global fame.
