Trends / Unique Itineraries & Tours

Every so often, some kind of astronomical event urges thousands of amateur and professional astronomers alike to travel, like the most recent solar eclipse in the beginning of July. The eclipse was only visible in parts of South America.

Luckily, there are organizations and projects dedicated to alerting the masses about upcoming solar eclipses. For a full breakdown of those in North America, check out this website.

As soon as you know where the eclipse will be visible, it is a good idea to book travel accommodations. It is probably a bit early to start booking a hotel for the next eclipse, coming in 2024, but it is a good idea to book your hotel as soon as possible.

As long as you’re in the path of totality, the view and experience will be excellent.

If you are looking for something a little more permanent, consider traveling north for a chance to see the Northern Lights. Sky and Telescope is organizing a tour to Iceland to see them this September.

If traveling south is more your speed, Australia has a number of observatories open for visitors. Like Iceland, Sky and Telescope is organizing an upcoming trip to the continent in October.
