Getting sick is never fun, but it’s even less so while traveling. Fortunately, there are precautions to take to avoid the dreaded travel cold. Follow our tips to avoid getting sick on your trip.

Be Proactive

Before you even board the plane, take some proactive measures to prepare for inevitable encounters with germs. Pack plenty of hand wipes and antibacterial lotion for times you aren’t able to access a sink. If you’re traveling to an international destination, research if you need any vaccinations. Also, be sure to get plenty of rest and hydrate before your trip to keep your immune system in good shape.

Protect Yourself Onboard

Once you’re in flight, make sure to stay hydrated. Wrap up in a warm scarf or sweater if the plane is cold. Avoid touching the notoriously dirty seatback tray, or wipe it with an antibacterial cloth to be safe. When possible, opt for healthier meal and snack options to prevent an upset stomach.

At Your Destination

Before your trip, look into the food and water safety of your destination. If water is a concern, stick to bottled even for brushing your teeth. Read restaurant reviews before dining out. Some establishments have rating systems they display directly on storefront windows. If you plan to spend time outside, make sure you lather up in sunscreen.
