BARK Air released its State of Pet Travel Report, an inside look into how pet owners and their pets are traveling in 2026. The report reveals how pet travel is evolving and how humans are swapping the luxury experiences for themselves, looking for amenities that include and accommodate their dogs.
“Pet travel is entering a new era,” said Michael Novotny, president, BARK Air. “Pet parents aren’t just bringing their dogs along anymore; they’re seeking experiences built entirely around them. There is a clear shift from pet-friendly to pet-first travel, where dogs are treated like true passengers rather than cargo.”
Pet Comfort is the New Luxury
Pet parent’s top priority for dog travel is comfort and emotional well-being. Anxiety is the leading concern during pet travel, and owners are looking for new ways to help their dogs feel comfortable, safe and relaxed. BARK Air noticed travelers are going the extra mile to keep their pets at ease, including using calming chews and aromatherapy before and during takeoff. In order to support travelers, BARK Air partnered with HigherDOSE, which offers at-home wellness technology and luxurious self-care rituals to create exclusive wellness experiences at domestic BARK Air airport lounges. This partnership brings infrared and PEMF therapy to traveling dogs for a dose of calm before boarding the flight. Furry friends will be able to try the brand’s new Infrared PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) Pet Bed, a first-of-its-kind creation designed to help pets rest, recover and recharge.
Pet Amenities are a Must
Pet offerings have become one of the main focuses when picking a hotel. According to BARK Air, 94 percent of travelers are willing to forfeit traditional amenities for a stay that welcomes their pets. Travelers are delighted by BARK Air’s new Companion Concierge to create itineraries where their pups receive the same level of comfort as them.
The Rise of Social Skies
BARK Air has noticed a lot of its passengers, both furry and human, are forming new friendships in flight. Last year’s insights indicated travel is becoming a social experience with passengers looking for opportunities to connect in flight. The brand typically sees dogs cuddling with one another as well as other humans besides their owners. In a setting filled with dog lovers, there is a sense of belonging which allows travelers to relax.
BARK Air conducted this study by looking at recent booking data and customer reviews to help predict the following trends.
