Tips / Destination

Catch the last few rays of summer with a trip to one of Chicago’s superb rooftop spaces. Rainy day? Many of these rooftops are still suitable for fun in inclement weather.

Cabra Cevicheria at the Hoxton Hotel

The brand-new Hoxton Hotel boasts a top-floor restaurant by celebrity chef Stephanie Izard. Cabra Cevicheria is a Peruvian eatery with views of Fulton Market District. Enjoy a few fresh bites at the ceviche bar and then lounge in the outdoor seating.

Offshore Rooftop & Bar

Sitting atop Navy Pier, Offshore Rooftop & Bar is now the largest rooftop venue in the United States. With 36,000 square feet of space, the bar and kitchen is open all seasons, with 16,000 square feet of indoor space and 20,000 square feet of outdoor space. Enjoy the amazing skyline views and, if you can, catch one of the biweekly summer fireworks shows on Lake Michigan.

The Nobel

On Michigan Avenue, the St. Jane Chicago hotel offers The Nobel, a new space on the property’s 24th floor. The indoor-outdoor rooftop lounge is named for Chicago Nobel Prize winner Jane Addams.

Utopian Tailgate

Utopian Tailgate is a new rooftop bar created in partnership with Second City, Chicago’s famed comedy club. The space includes 3,500 square feet of covered space and 6,500 square feet of outdoor space. A great time for all is promised, as Second City’s alumni includes comedy favorites like Steve Carrell and Stephen Colbert.

No, it’s not Monterey Bay. We’re talking Morro Bay, California, located about a 2.5-hour drive to the south, about halfway between San Jose and Los Angeles. A quieter destination, Morro Bay offers plenty for the outdoor adventurer to enjoy.
