The market at East Princes Street Gardens hosts a selection of Christmas treats, ornaments and other handcrafted items. The event runs mid-November through early January. Stands are open 10 a.m.–10 p.m. daily.
Madrid’s Plaza Mayor transforms into a winter wonderland around Christmastime. Dozens of vendors offer holiday goodies ranging from Nativity scenes to musical instruments and everything in between. Entrance is free. The event runs November to December, with dates varying each year.
Located in Tallinn, Estonia, this Christmas market features merchants selling Christmas items alongside traditional Estonian cuisine. Tallinn’s Town Hall Square, where the market is held, holds the honor of having the first Christmas tree ever put on display in Europe. The event runs mid-November through early January.
This Christmas market in Austria takes place in front of Vienna’s City Hall. The comprehensive market experience has everything to get you in the holiday spirit, from carolers and cookie making demonstrations to ice skating and visits with Santa. There’s plenty of shopping, too, of course. Dates vary by year but generally run mid-November until late December.

The discovery was made on Diaz Rock, near Astrolabe Island, in Antarctica, in January 2024, when Viking Octantis visited the 3-mile-long island. The island is home to a colony of chinstrap penguins that not been surveyed since 1987.
