Food markets are a great way to experience the local cuisine from a destination all under one roof. These stellar food markets should be on the top of your list when visiting these destinations.
Borough Market, London
Borough Market is one of the oldest markets in London, with roots dating back to the 12th century. Today, the market offers a wide range of fruit, vegetables, meat, cheese and fish. Make sure you stop in one of the many eateries for a taste of London. The market also hosts a variety of events, including cooking demonstrations and market tours.
La Boqueria, Barcelona
One of the most popular attractions in Barcelona, La Boqueria boasts an impressive collection of fresh produce, meats, dried goods and tinned fish. The restaurants and bars on site get crowded quickly so be patient. Make sure to sample traditional tapas plates at the markets’ bars.
Pike Place Market, Seattle
Pike Place Market is much more than a food market. There are food and craft vendors, restaurants and shopping. The market hosts events from cooking demonstrations to soap-making classes. Select restaurants in the market also participate in Seattle Restaurant Week.
Tsukiji Fish Market, Tokyo
The market is known for its famous early-morning fish auction. Vendors previously banned visitors from viewing the intense auction. In addition to fish, the market offers other food items and dining options.
