Florida is almost surrounded by water and has many rivers and lakes throughout the state. It’s a great place for adventurers to enjoy a day of kayaking or canoeing. Especially in the summer months when the temperature is high and it’s hard to find things to do to cool off, spending the day in or around water is a good option.
For travelers exploring the beautiful beaches of the Florida Keys area, kayaking to the Indian Key off Islamorada is the perfect daytrip. The journey to the island is fun enough with deep-blue water and only the view of the island ahead. It feels like you’re traveling deep into the heart of a jungle or abandoned island. Once visitors reach the island, they can visit Indian Key State Park, as well.
A well-known river in Florida is Fisheating Creek in Palmdale. This river is winding and housed in a beautiful, mysterious landscape with many trees to maneuver around. Before running to this river, check the water levels are high enough to kayak. The trail is definitely a can’t-miss experience, but the timing has to be right.
The Everglades is also a fantastic area to go on a kayaking adventure. A favorite among locals is Turner River. The landscape changes many times through the journey, ranging from swamp to marsh, and is home to many animals as well. It’s a great introduction to the Everglades for newcomers.
