Check out these museums in the Scottish capital, perfect for whiling away a couple of hours on a rainy day.

The Museum on the Mound tells the story of how money changed in the past 4,000 years. It’s free to get in and there are seven rooms including one with £1 million in £20 notes.

At Surgeons’ Hall Museums you can see a series of gruesome exhibits collected over the years, becoming a great place of interest for those interested in how surgical methods evolved. There is a collection of cancerous lungs and gangrenous fingers that will turn the stomach too.

The National Museum of Flight is found slightly outside the city in East Fortune, but it’s worth the journey to see more than 50 artifacts including supersonic airliner Concorde.

One of the biggest museums in Edinburgh is the National Museum of Scotland, recently refurbished as part of a $60 million plan that brought 8,000 objects into the public eye for the first time. It’s now more interactive than before so it’s great for kids and visitors of all ages.

For a throwback to your younger days, head to the Museum of Childhood. Little has changed since it first opened in the 1950s, which is part of the charm.
