Tips / Destination

The Spanish region of Galicia sets itself apart for many reasons, like its vistas of the Atlantic from its perch in northwestern Spain right above Portugal. Its cliffs of Cape Finisterre are the end of the world or were thought to be by the Romans. The Camino de Santiago pilgrimage trail runs through this region, as well. The landscape is beyond comparison as is the food.

Arrive in summer and you will be greeted by an abundance of every kind of imaginable seafood. Known for its scallops, squid, razor clams, langoustines, the rare percebes or wild goose barnacle, this is the place to eat sea to table. Excellent wine and cheese are also available to those so inclined.

How do you bring such a magical place home is the question? Wine, cheese and tins of seafood are all excellent options. Another would be to invest in a piece of Galician pottery. Sargedelos Pottery  is a large manufacturer of Galician pottery with a long history, in existence since the 19th century and specializing in the porcelain, shapes and patterns of the region. They also have a variety of objects to choose from, including jewelry and figurines. If, however, more robust everyday pottery is what you are after, there are items even more beautiful all around the region. Be sure to take the time to poke your head into the shops of local ceramicists to find something. All you have to do is look.
