As the home of sushi, Tokyo is packed with amazing spots to get your raw fish fix.

One of the most famous is Sushi Dai, next to the famous Tsukiji fish market. Come here for breakfast and order an omakase tasting menu to sample a variety of fish.

Another good option is Sushi no Midori, which offers a variety of sets at reasonable prices. It’s down to earth in terms of atmosphere, and the food is great.

Hanamaru is the kind of conveyor belt restaurant you probably have seen in films. It was founded in Hokkaido province, and now has two restaurants in Tokyo. You’ll have to queue as there are no reservations, but it’s worth the wait for great value sushi.

Sushi Kanesaka is a super high-end spot where dinner menus start at around $230. However, if you go at lunchtime, you can eat for more like $50. This is a good tip for most flashy sushi spots, where heavy lunchtime discounts are common.

Shinbashi Shimizu is another highly regarded restaurant that offers lunchtime deals. Tasting menus start at $140, but you can get a similar meal for around $70 if you go at lunch.
