Invest in a good base layer and you will be able to stay warm without getting too sweaty. Look out for merino wool versions that will stay fresh for days without washing.

One of the most highly regarded brands on the market is Icebreaker, which offers a range of long- and short-sleeve base layers. It’s a good all-round performer and comes in quite a lot cheaper than its rivals.

Alongside merino wool, another material of choice is yak wool. That’s what you get with the Kora Shola 230, a base layer with a half zip for easy ventilation. It’s incredibly warm, and perfectly suited for high-altitude skiing or climbing.

For a midweight option, try Patagonia Capilene Air Crew, which has eco-friendly credentials thanks to the use of recycled polyester. It also looks like a standard sweater, so you can wear it for casual occasions, too.

Heritage brand Helly Hansen does a range of base layers, and the Lifa Merino 1/2 zip is among its best. It’s available in a huge range of colors so you can choose your favorite. Combining merino wool on the outside and synthetic fabric against the skin, the Lifa 1/2 zip works well when you’re active and when you’re chilling out.

What to Do During a Trip to Morro Bay, California

No, it’s not Monterey Bay. We’re talking Morro Bay, California, located about a 2.5-hour drive to the south, about halfway between San Jose and Los Angeles. A quieter destination, Morro Bay offers plenty for the outdoor adventurer to enjoy.

The Argosaronic Islands Are Calling

The Saronic or Argo Saronic Islands of Greece call travelers to explore its seven small islands and islets brimming with history, natural sites and more. With most easily accessible by boat, the islands’ proximity to ports of Athens make the Saronic Islands an ideal destination for those preferring shorter boat rides. In fact, trips from Athens ports to the islands take only between 10 minutes and two hours, depending on the island you choose, making them perfect for day or weekend trips.
