WalletHub reports 45 percent of all U.S. adults are single. With that in mind, where can the single person travel and live with the highest chance for finding love? WalletHub looked at several key indicators to recommend the best and worst cities for singles in the United States. Factors included percentage of singles among the population, gender balances, online dating opportunities, nightlife options, date costs and more.
The study found Atlanta, Georgia, the best city for singles in the United States, as it offers plenty of dating opportunities and fun recreational activities for dates, all at a reasonable cost. Atlanta was followed by Denver, Colorado; San Francisco, California; San Diego, California; and Portland, Oregon.
The study found the worst city for singles in the United States is Hialeah, Florida, followed by Shreveport, Louisiana; Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Yonkers, New York; and Columbia, Maryland.
Detroit is the city with the highest share of single persons in the United States, with nearly 74 of the population single. The city with the lowest share of single persons is Fremont, California, with less than 38 percent of the population single.
Looking at just online dating opportunities, the most opportunities for singles exist in Gilbert, Arizona; Fremont, California; Plano, Texas; Irvine, California; and Rancho Cucamonga, California. The fewest online dating opportunities exist in Springfield, Missouri; Miami, Florida; Shreveport, Louisiana; Newport News, Virginia; and Brownsville, Texas.
For affordable dates, Midwest cities such as Detroit, Milwaukee, Indianapolis and Omaha ranked well. The study also looked at affordable date preparation costs, such as going to a beauty salon. In that area, Rapid City, South Dakota, took the top spot as most affordable.
