Nestled in the museum district behind Athens City Museum is Black Duck Garden, one of the city’s hidden gems.
The indoor seating stays true to its museum setting with modern artwork displayed throughout while the outdoor patio provides guests with an oasis within the concrete jungle of the city. Tables are dispersed throughout the garden with a wide variety of statues creating an intellectual ambience.
The menu is superb, drawing on the roots of the Mediterranean diet and adding a modern flair. Seasonal dishes are made with fresh ingredients and are designed to meet an assortment of tastes and dietary needs, including vegan and vegetarian dishes. The snack and brunch menu has a delicious selection, including an interesting take on eggs benedict made with a slice of veal and eggs a la royale, made with a creamy mustard sauce and smoked salmon.
For lunch the octopus Carpaccio is a great starter dish, pairing traditional Greek seafood with a green pea and mint puree. If you are lucky enough to visit Black Duck when they have pheasant on the menu, you are in for a treat, but if it’s not available then the fresh squid with black rice, miso and coconut sauce or the pork sirloin with corn puree and Greek coffee and herb sauce are also excellent choices.
For dessert, the Black Duck biscuit is always a good choice. Made with chocolate ganache, sea-smoked salt and pink pepper, it’s a great way to finish off a meal.
As the flavors change to reflect the season it is obvious the creative minds and talented chefs behind Black Duck know what they’re doing and you are guaranteed to have a world-class dining experience.
