Keeping our homes, loved ones and belongings secure is always a priority, and with ‘porch pirating’ becoming a problem of epic proportions, it’s no wonder home camera systems are in increasingly high demand.

Once upon a time busy travelers would have to rely on neighbors and friends to keep an eye on their homes while away on vacation, hoping to come home to things just as they left them, but technology changed all that. Companies like Blink with its XT2 home camera systems let us keep an eye on things from anywhere in the world.

This small camera system works in conjunction with Alexa, doesn’t require a monthly plan to operate or access stored footage, and records day or night thanks to its infrared night vision capability. It runs off two AA batteries and a WiFi connection and works through an app that sends both audio and video to your smartphone when the motion sensor is activated.

The camera records whenever motion is detected and stores recorded material in the cloud for up to one year, free of charge. The motion activity area can be customized so it doesn’t notify you every time a car drives by and comes enabled with a two-way audio system.

The device, easy to mount anywhere, works both indoors and outdoors and is waterproof so it can withstand the crazy weather patterns of late. The XT2 can be purchased with one, two, three or five cameras per system.

Due to its popularity, the XT2 is currently unavailable on Amazon but is expected back in stock soon, when it will be available at a starting price of $99.

How to Explore Neuschwanstein Castle

Most people know Neuschwanstein Castle as Walt Disney’s inspiration for both Cinderella’s and Sleeping Beauty’s castles, but it is also filled with history and stories from German royalty. In 1868, King Ludwig II began construction of the medieval-style castle to live in. Sadly, it wasn’t finished before he died, so the king never got to see the finished product. Today, the castle is privately owned, but travelers can still explore it on a guided audio tour.
