If you want a step up from a youth hostel, why not book a room in one of Amsterdam’s many boutique hotels.
The Volkshotel, housed inside a former newspaper office, is found around 10 minutes’ walk from the De Pijp neighbourhood. It’s a well-designed space with lovely rooms that go for around $105 per night.
Right in the heart of the canal district, Hotel Dwars is found inside a traditional narrow house. It’s great value at around $160 per night given the location and the attention to detail.
Motel One might be slightly away from the center of the city, but it makes up for that with amazing beds and great service at a bargain price. You can book a double for around $95 per night, which is good value.
Head to the well-heeled Oud Zuid area and you will find a chic fashion district as well as many of Amsterdam’s museums. It’s also home to The Neighbour’s Magnolia, a relaxed hotel that offers doubles from around $80.
Zoku is a trendy workspace that also offers a number of rooms for around $125 per night. It’s a great place to meet locals and fellow travelers, with a huge common room with a bar and games.
