Alexandria, Virginia, is located just outside of Washington D.C. It has a reputation for being a pricey area. Even though some restaurants may give your wallet a workout, there are still plenty of spots pleasing to your palate and wallet.


Don Taco Tequila Bar

Enjoy a selection of inventive tacos at this Mexican joint. Basic options like carnitas, fried avocado and chorizo and eggs cost $2.95 each. Or, opt for a more unique selection including pomegranate skirt steak, bulgogi or lamb for $3.95 each.

The Vietnamese restaurant in Old Town offers a variety of popular dishes, though the bahn mi sandwiches are the best deal. Options include catfish, pork shoulder, fried egg and ham. Sandwiches start at $5.

Haute Dogs and Fries offers elevated, customizable hot dogs. Select a protein then either make your own combination of toppings or choose from one of the preselected creations. Toppings range from the basic, like mustard, to the unusual, like mango pineapple relish. Hot dogs start at about $3.99.


The Creamery 

Satisfy your sweet tooth at The Creamery. Opened in 1984, the ice cream shop offers homemade ice cream and other frozen treats. Ice cream starts at about $5.
