Budget Eats in Montpellier, France

Montpellier has lots of good, cheap restaurants. One explanation is the large student population of the city, although everyone stands to benefit from the wide range of options.

Bangkok Street Food is an informal little restaurant that serves noodle dishes in a box for around $8. It’s also one of the few places in town that serves food continuously throughout the day — most places shut 3–7 p.m.

Empanadas Club combines Argentinian pastries with some French influences, an interesting mix well worth stopping for on your way around the historic center of town.

La Creperie Jean Molin is a great spot to try a classic French delicacy, and the crepes are huge. Choose your fillings and sit at an outside table to watch the shoppers on the Rue Molin go by as you eat.

If you want to grab something quick on the go, Food Corner offers a wide range of snacks for those on a budget. Alternatively, you can swing by here after lunch to get one of the $2 Nutella crepes.

As ever, there are a number of kebab and falafel places in Montpellier; head to the area near the station if that’s what you’re looking for.
