El Paso, the southernmost city in Texas, is a terrific place to travel for those on a budget. There’s plenty to see and do, the weather is great year-round and accommodations are well below the national average when it comes to price. Here are a few hotels worth checking out.
The historic Gardner Hotel is a family-run hotel and hostel in one, with an unbeatable location near both downtown and the University of Texas. Each of the 50 rooms is decorated with original, antique furniture pieces, and the hotel is famous for having housed John Dillinger and his gang. It’s just a short trip to the most popular bars and attractions downtown.
The Soluna Hotel is another great, affordable option a short distance from downtown. It offers basic accommodations close to both the Old Fort Bliss Replica and the El Paso County Coliseum. It’s also within walking distance to the Evergreen Historical Cemetery. Rooms run an average of $60 a night.
If you’re okay with spending a little more money, The Rest of Texas B&B is a fantastic option that runs $109 a night as long as you book at least two in a row. You’ll spend your nights in a fully furnished guesthouse with terracotta floors and Persian rugs, along with a kitchenette and private bathroom with a large, Mexican-tiled shower. A full breakfast is included, along with complimentary snacks in the kitchenette.
