Start your day with breakfast at 7th Street Public Market, where you can get a delicious bowl of cheesy grits and eggs for just a few dollars at Uptown Yolk. Accompany it all with a cup of steaming hot, lovingly crafted coffee from Not Just Coffee.

Then, walk down the street to The Levine Museum of the New South, where you can learn how the South changed dramatically after the Civil War, and how the region’s populations adjusted to a new way of life and plotted a successful path forward into the future. Tickets are only $10.

Hit up another museum before lunch. You can easily walk to the Mint Museum Uptown and check out the American, contemporary and European art. Tickets are $15.

Grab lunch a few blocks away at The King’s Kitchen. While your delicious, southern-inspired lunch definitely won’t put a dent in your wallet, you’ll be glad to know the cost goes to a good cause. The restaurant is a nonprofit that reinvests everything it makes into the community, serving the underprivileged with food for the hungry and educational resources for those in need of work.

During the afternoon, check out the tour options from Charlotte NC Tours. The enthusiastic staff will show you the best of the best of Charlotte, whether you’re interested in learning more about the town’s history, its haunted side or anything in between. Customized tours are available, so anything is possible. It’s the perfect way to spend a few hours exploring with a local at the helm of your adventures. Walking tours start at just $15.

Before dinner, grab a drink at the rooftop bar above Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel. Merchant & Trade offers seasonal cocktails and a menu of small plates. While the drinks aren’t on the budget-friendly side, you get stellar views for the price, making the splurge well worth it.

Then, head downstairs for dinner at Angeline’s, the hotel’s Italian-inspired American eatery where you can enjoy the elegant, social atmosphere and mouthwatering dinner options like squash tortellini and charred octopus salad for $20 or less.
