Under $100: Lexington, Kentucky

It might not be the first destination in mind for your next trip, but the Horse Capital of the World has a ton going for it, and it’s possible to fill a day while spending less than $100.

Start your day with a trip to Lexington Diner. Aptly named, this diner is an awesome spot to get a full meal and start your day. The full menu has everything you might want, from packed omelets to breakfast sandwiches to egg dishes. You will eat for less than $15.

After breakfast, its time for a taste of the things Lexington is really known for. The Kentucky Horse Park is an educational, working horse farm. It includes museums, horse and pony rides, shows and much more. Admission is $15, and parking is $5.

For lunch, head to Winchell’s Restaurant and Sports Bar. The lunch menu is varied and plates can be had for $10. If any sporting events are happening at the same time, this is also a great place to catch the action.

After lunch, you should explore some of the city’s historic sites. Visit the Mary Todd Lincoln House, the Henry Clay Estate and the Hunt-Morgan House.

As the afternoon starts to drag, it’s time to see some of what Lexington, and Kentucky as a whole, is famous for. Visit Lexington Brewing Company’s distillery in the heart of Lexington for a tour. Tours are $9 and include a tasting.

Finally, get dinner at Oscar Diggs. You can eat here for less than $20, but make sure to reserve a table.
