Trends / History

March marks Irish-American Heritage month. The celebration coincides with St. Patrick’s Day on March 17. Established in 1991, the month honors the achievements of Irish-Americans to our country. Whether you are or aren’t Irish, take time this month to celebrate the contributions of Irish-Americans.

Do Some Research

Learn about the various contributions Irish-Americans made to the United States. Research popular individuals across different disciplines from politicians and authors to artists and athletes. Look into autobiographies or biographies of someone of interest to you. Did you know Kurt Cobain, Walt Disney and Barack Obama all share Irish-American ancestry? Check out the full list.

Film Fest

Have a movie night and watch some films about the Irish-American experience, including Brooklyn, True Confessions, On the Waterfront and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

Irish Potluck

Host a potluck and invite guests to bring their favorite Irish dishes. Go beyond the obvious choices like Irish soda bread or corned beef and cabbage and look into other options like colcannon, boxty or coddle. Buy some Irish spirits to wash down your meal.

Book a Trip

If you’ve always wanted to travel to Ireland, use this opportunity to book the trip of your dreams to the Emerald Isle. Dublin is a must-see city full of culture. On your visit, be sure to check out a few tours including Irish ghost tours and architecture tours.
