The Grand Canyon National Park centennial takes place Feb. 26. One century ago, the National Park Service began catering to visitors to one of America’s most jaw-dropping landscapes, now with approximately 6 million domestic and international visitors annually.

If you visit the Grand Canyon on Feb. 26, you can participate in the 100th birthday party, 9 a.m.–9 p.m. Activities include a cake and concert; cultural demonstrations; and special events at the Visitor Center, Desert View and Historic Village. Sign the park’s birthday card, share your favorite memories of the Canyon at the oral history booth and check out one of the many guests speaking on the relationship between the Canyon and 11 associated Native American tribes.

Tour providers around the area also celebrate in style. Austin Adventures is providing extra perks on its Grand Canyon tours for all of 2019, with each trip now featuring an educational element with expert guides; children under 12 receiving a gift pack filled with Grand Canyon memorabilia; and all adults receiving a $100 donation in their name to the Grand Canyon Conservancy.

“There is no question as to why the Grand Canyon is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the natural world. A must-see on everyone’s bucket list, we at Austin Adventures have been sharing the ‘big ditch’ with adventure seekers for over two decades,” said Dan Austin, founder and president, Austin Adventures. “You really need to do more than just view it from an overlook, you must journey inside and experience it to really understand its magnitude and magnificence!”

Austin Adventures hosts six-day Grand Canyon itineraries for both families and adults-only, as well as eight-day itineraries that combine the Grand Canyon with Bryce and Zion Park. Prices start at $2,398 per person.
