You can now check out some of the world’s best museums without leaving home. Thanks to new technology, you can get up close and personal with history and cultural exhibits as if you were right there at a museum or gallery featuring some of your favorite topics and historic events or figures.

One museum to recently add new virtual opportunities to its offerings is the American Numismatic Association Money Museum in Colorado Springs. This interesting spot features artifacts related to the history and cultural significance of money over time, from the days when shells and stones were used for currency to money’s more recent forms. There are three galleries, where, along with artifacts, guests can explore money’s relationships with art, history and science.

You can see all this plus previously closed temporary exhibits with the museum’s new virtual opportunities, all free.

One of the most recent virtual exhibits is “Trenches to Treaties: World War I in Remembrance,” which showcases money and medals in relation to the war’s events and political, economic and social impacts. See coins and paper money from combatant nations, artistic medals, military decorations and historic content on the gold standard and colonization.

The other virtual exhibits from the Money Museum include: “Money of the Civil War”; “Colorado Numismatic History”; “The Bebee Collection” (more than 500 notes of a pedigreed paper money collection); the “Nickel that Never Was,” worth $5 million; “Colorado Gold”; the “King of U.S. Coins,” an 1804 dollar valued at $3 million; and the “Harry Bass Jr. Collection,” the most complete U.S. gold coin collection ever assembled.

All these virtual exhibits can be accessed at www.money.org/money-museum/virtual-exhibits
