Tips / Other

For the recent graduate, spending money is the last thing they want to do. After getting bills for student loans, graduates want to find a way to make money and save. Those who wish to teach abroad might be disheartened by the price tag of Teaching English as a Second Language certification. It’s yet another investment into education. Luckily, not every country requires this certificate; here are some companies that will hire without it.

For travelers who decide to teach online, they can earn a decent wage without a TEFL certificate. One website that allows almost anyone to teach students abroad is Cambly. This platform enables teachers to engage with students around the world with no experience necessary. This is a great way to start out when looking to teach international students. This will give recent grads or travelers the necessary experience to move on to to a better paying job.

One of the most well-known ways to teach abroad without TEFL is to join the Peace Corps. Joining the Peace Corps is not an easy feat and the application process weeds out a lot of people, but for the right candidates this job is perfect. It’s a rewarding experience where the company sends out volunteers to teach English in developing nations. Again, this is great experience to put on a resume and can lead to better opportunities in the future.

Other than those options, graduates and travelers should look into companies for specific countries to find the right fit for them. There are companies that employ teachers in China and Japan, for example, who do not require the TEFL certificate. If there’s a will, there’s a way.

The Argosaronic Islands Are Calling

The Saronic or Argo Saronic Islands of Greece call travelers to explore its seven small islands and islets brimming with history, natural sites and more. With most easily accessible by boat, the islands’ proximity to ports of Athens make the Saronic Islands an ideal destination for those preferring shorter boat rides. In fact, trips from Athens ports to the islands take only between 10 minutes and two hours, depending on the island you choose, making them perfect for day or weekend trips.

No, it’s not Monterey Bay. We’re talking Morro Bay, California, located about a 2.5-hour drive to the south, about halfway between San Jose and Los Angeles. A quieter destination, Morro Bay offers plenty for the outdoor adventurer to enjoy.
