Tips / Travel

Travelers will spend their lives immersing themselves into cultures, exploring cities and finding great adventures. Some have a great love for this lifestyle and choose to either live their lives traveling or spend longer chunks of time in a destination. The average traveler doesn’t stay in a destination for a month or worry about building a foundation to support them for their quick trips. However, long-term travelers do worry about these issues and more and learn to cope with the negatives of not having a permanent home.

The biggest drawback of long-term travel is missing out on events happening at home. Birthdays, graduations and family celebrations are missed by travelers who live in countries separate from their friends and families. Missing these events can cause a feeling of longing to return home and be with loved ones. It can lead to travelers feeling lonely and fretting about their lives back home instead of enjoying their travels. To avoid this, always keep open the lines of communication with family and friends with regular scheduled phone calls and Skype sessions.

For long-term travelers, packing is a nightmare. It’s impossible to fit everything a traveler needs in a couple suitcases. Eventually, a moment will arise where the person realizes they left something important back home. It’s difficult to buy new items or souvenirs as well, because all of the suitcases are packed with things from home. It’s important to take packing into consideration when planning a trip that lasts for a long time. Always make sure to bring the necessities, but be prepared to buy anything missed and to leave extra space for the souvenirs brought home.
