Podcasts are a great way to listen to stories, hear about the past, get opinions on some of your favorite pieces of pop culture and more. Podcasts are also great for staying up to date with current events.

Like everything else, there are a ton of shows for news junkies. Here are a few we like and a few others that are immensely popular.

NPR’s Up First is a bite-sized podcast that drops every morning and gives listeners an easy-to-grasp run down of the previous day’s news. The show’s hosts break down three news stories in less than 15 minutes, making it a punchy and informative start to the day.

Dealing in news and politics can get a little hairy. If you disagree with the hosts about anything in their political leanings, it could prompt you to turn off the podcast. The same team behind Last Podcast on the Left brings Abe Lincoln’s Top Hat. Ben Kissel has experience running for political office and usually does a great job of calling it how he sees it.

Pod Save America is a podcast hosted by four aides to former President Obama. They bring on comedians, actors and others to have no-holds barred conversations about politics. This one is more left-leaning, so keep that in mind when deciding what you want to hear.

There is really no shortage of podcasts dedicated to keeping listeners informed as well as entertained. Many of the shows even go so far as to make humor a staple, so the grinding pressures of reality don’t feel so sharp. For genuinely funny political commentary, check out Fake the Nation, Two Beers In: A Tipsy Political Roundtable and the Partly Political Podcast.
