The capital of Northern Ireland sits within easy reach of some amazing natural attractions. Here are some of the best daytrips.
A top choice is Antrim Castle, which sits on the banks of the Six Mile Water. Explore the amazing gardens or take a hike through the woodland on the Mill Race Trail up to Shakey Bridge if you’re feeling active.
An hour north of Belfast is the town of Carrickfergus, replete with 800-year-old castle. It’s right on a beach, and there is a great dock area with bars and restaurants.
Within 40 minutes’ drive you can reach the 191-hectare Carnfunnock Country Park, near the village of Ballygalley. You’ll feel like you’ve entered a different world as you explore this super quiet part of the country.
Drive south from Belfast to get to the seaside town of Newcastle, home to some great seafood restaurants. Fill your belly and then take on the hike up Slieve Donard, the highest peak in Northern Ireland at 850 feet. The view from the top is spectacular.
Pack a picnic and make the trip to Lough Neagh, some 40 minutes west of the city. It’s the largest lake by area in Britain.
