Looking for the ultimate underwater adventure? InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort invites travelers to explore a whole new world. This resort, on the edge of Raa Atoll’s UNESCO BioSphere, is a bucket-list destination for marine life lovers because of the large gathering of manta rays and whale sharks.
When these impressive creatures gather every July–October, travelers have the opportunity to experience rare, one-of-a-kind wildlife encounters. Whether an experienced diver or just an ocean lover, InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort offers plenty of experiences for visitors to explore the fabulous marine life.
Underwater excursions and adventures are led by the resort’s team of experienced dive instructors and marine biologists to ensure a safe and enriching experience. If that’s not your vibe, guests can snorkel in the resort’s house reef, filled with vibrant marine life.
Thanks to a partnership with Manta Trust, guests also have the chance to set off on educational snorkeling trips and participate in conservation efforts to protect the local marine life. Maamunagau Lagoon is also an important Shark and Ray Area, hosting a juvenile manta ray aggregation site and serving as a key research area for the Manta Trust team. The team helps identify and record young manta ray pubs in the lagoon based on their unique belly prints. Guests can learn all about the procedure in a Manta ID workshop, and have the opportunity to adopt and name a manta ray.
After a long day of exploration, unwind in the resort’s overwater villas to have the chance to still catch a glimpse of local marine life.
