Vacation rental hospitality company Evolve recently revealed the results of its Vacation Rental Industry Trends: Summer 2022 report. The vacation rental industry saw large growth from 2019 to 2021, with a 33 percent increase in demand, setting a high bar for 2022.
The market for 2022 faces challenges, including inflation rates and high gas prices, and thus impacts consumer’s summer travel behavior. The survey shows that in late 2021, 86 percent of those surveyed planned to book a vacation home rental in the next year. However, once inflation started in 2022, the demand for vacation rental homes began to slow. Demand growth for rentals homes is only up 9 percent, as compared to 32 percent in January 2022. Only time will tell how the rest of the summer 2022 rental season will play out.
“It’s important to remember today’s vacation rental market is quite different from what it was 12 months ago, or even 6 months ago, and it’s different from what it’s going to be a few months from today,” said Eric Schueller, senior vice president of revenue, Evolve. “That’s simply a natural part of being in the vacation rental industry. And despite the headwinds currently facing the economy, Evolve works hard to adjust course as needed to set owners up for maximum success.”
