Explore the Great Outdoors at the Fernbank Museum of Natural History

Home to some of the world’s largest dinosaurs, Fernbank Museum of Natural History in Atlanta features history- and nature-inspired exhibits like “Reflections of Culture,” a “Walk Through Time in Georgia,” “Giants of the Mesozoic” and “World of Shells.” Unlike traditional history museums, Fernbank also offers outdoor adventures for restless wanderers at WildWoods and the Fernbank Forest and offers one of the largest assemblages of urban Piedmont forest in the United States. Wander outside and take a walk along the canopy bridge, wooded trails and nature playgrounds for year-round fun.

Built with kids in mind, the indoors NatureQuest offers nooks and crannies to explore, including a faux tree with a secret spiral netting inside to climb. A treehouse, clubhouse, underwater-themed area and interactive exhibits with microscopes turns little visitors into researchers and scientists.

Guests can also purchase a discounted combo ticket to enter Fernbank, as well as see an educational movie on the giant screen in the 3-D IMAX theater. And on the second Friday of the month, grown-ups join Fernbank for live music and cocktails under a backdrop of illuminated dinosaurs towering overhead. Lively dance nights, educational adult summer camps and double features are also available for adults looking to expand their experience at Fernbank. But before you leave, head downstairs to the Star Gallery and look up to see a replica of the brightest star in the sky, Sirius, to some of the smallest in the galaxy. No matter the time of day, you’ll feel like you’re standing under a sparkling night sky.
