The Fete des Vignerons is an amazing festival in Switzerland. Hundreds of Swiss winemakers come together to present their best wines for the world to taste and purchase. It takes place once a generation in Vevey, a town situated in the viticulture region of Lavaux. This is the first living Swiss tradition recognized by UNESCO, making it a big deal to the Swiss people. The celebration is a series of shows that takes place over several weeks, with each dedicated to a different aspect of Switzerland. For wine lovers this is not an event to miss.
Unfortunately, the downside to creating a show advertised as taking place once a generation? Tickets are expensive. Some of the shows are sold out in minutes because it’s easier to buy tickets to specific shows than a pass that will cover weeks of presentations. An event like this takes a decent amount of careful planning. Getting tickets to the shows is only the first hurdle; finding accommodation can be a nightmare if not done with lots of advance notice.
If you can get past the prices and headache of scheduling a trip to this event, then you’ll be welcome to one of the greatest wine festivals in the world. Be merry, drink all the wine you can. This is a great place to socialize with other wine connoisseurs, make friends and take in the beautiful sights of Switzerland as well. The country is idyllic and known for majestic natural vistas.
