Cruises represent the ability to escape from everyday life for a week of luxury and relaxation. The anxiety many face at the beginning of a trip is seasickness.

The first option is over-the-counter medicine brand Dramamine. Dramamine fights nausea and motion sickness. Travelers should take the medicine before actually stepping on board the cruise ship to best ward off effects before they begin. In all likelihood, by the time the Dramamine works itself through your system, your body will be ready to deal with the sea.

If you don’t want to take medicine, but are still dealing with some bad motion sickness, there are a number of things you can do to fight the symptoms.

Start by sitting down and focusing on a single point. This will help your sense of balance come to terms with the motion around you. If sitting and focusing on a single point is not working, consider lying down and closing your eyes.

There is a good chance alcohol and excessive food consumption, as is popular on cruise ships, also hurts your ability to cope with motion. If you find the symptoms only arrive after large meals or heavy consumption, consider cutting back a little for your own sake.

Adventures on Pitcairn Island

Pitcairn Island is a remote patch of land between Eastern Island and French Polynesia, and Britain’s only inhabited territory in the Pacific. At only 15 square miles and a population of 50, it doesn’t exactly come to mind as an adventurous tourist destination. However, this tiny island is hiding some incredible opportunities.

Enjoy the Open Road on Your Terms

For most of us, time in the car is “me time.” You can listen to that podcast you’re captivated by, blast that pop song and sing along at the top of your lungs or listen to the next chapter in that biography e-book you’re almost finished. A road trip only amplifies those opportunities. So, next time you’re traveling by road, take the wheel and take control. Opt for a rental car on your next vacation, rather than a rideshare, taxi or public transportation, and enjoy the open road on your own terms.

Riad Le Bel Oranger, Marrakesh, Morocco

In the loud, busy and often overwhelming medina of Marrakesh, it can be difficult to find a tiny sliver of solace in which to rest after spending hours negotiating for the best market prices. But one riad truly exemplifies the characteristic of “tucked away,” as it’s located a few connected alleyways from the noise and congestion.

Once business concludes, a world of wonder awaits in many of Italy’s incredible cities.

Find the “Ugly” in Europe

Finding the beauty in an iconic city like Rome, London, Prague or Paris is easy — just look around. See the jaw-dropping sites of the Coliseum or the Sistine Chapel on a summertime trip; take an obligatory photo on the South Bank with Big Ben in the distance; savor Prague Castle views; or stroll the stunning streets of Paris in the springtime.
