My husband and I recently had dinner with our friends at Fuji in Haddonfield. A frequent on many local best-of lists, Fuji specializes in simple, perfectly executed sushi.
We arrived in time for our reservation and were seated immediately. It was a Saturday night and the restaurant was packed. Fuji is a BYO, so we brought wine to go with our meal. Our waitress came over shortly after we were seated. She went over a few specials while we perused the menu and then came back with an ice bucket for our wine.
We decided to split a few small plates for the table: tuna guacamole, octopus dumplings, fried tofu and gyoza. While all of the appetizers were tasty, the tuna guacamole was my favorite. The tuna sashimi was topped with mashed avocado, salt, soy sauce and wasabi-infused olive oil.
I knew I wanted sushi, instead of an entrée like teriyaki or tempura. I ordered two rolls (unagi avocado and salmon) and my husband and I split tamago (sweet egg cake) sushi and red seabream sashimi on special. I devoured every bite.
The staff was friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. If you are in the area and love sushi, a trip to Fuji is a must.
