Getting around a destination you aren’t familiar with can be a daunting task, even when it is just a single city. Navigating an entire country or region can up the stress to 11.
Egypt’s identity and economy are built around its established reputation as a tourist destination. As a result, government officials and policy go a long way toward making visits enjoyable for all visitors.
The simplest way to get around Egypt is also the most standard. Upon your arrival, rent a car for the duration of your stay. This will let you travel from tourist center to tourist center on your own terms without needing to hail taxis.
If driving in a foreign country makes you nervous, especially with the abounding rumors of intense traffic patterns, you can use popular ridesharing apps like Uber to get from one place to another. Careem is another great rideshare option if Uber is not available.
Make sure to weigh all of your options. While traditional land transportation works just fine, sometimes a ride over water is just the ticket. Look into Nile Taxi services to see how you can get from point A to point B over the river.
If you need to traverse large swaths of land and want to do so without the hassle of renting a car or long-haul taxi, trains are your best bet. Egyptian National Railways operates the wide-ranging rail system. Trains connect the biggest tourist centers, including Cairo, Alexandria and Luxor.
