Located in Evesham Township, New Jersey, Black Run Preserve is a great spot for both novice and experienced hikers.

Set on about 1,300 acres, the preserve is located in the Pinelands, also known as the Pine Barrens. The forested coastal plain stretches through several counties in New Jersey. The terrain in the Pinelands is characterized by sandy, low-nutrient soil. Due to the conditions, only native plants and animals thrive in the preserve. Expect to see green frogs along the trails.

Black Run Preserve boasts marked hiking trails and sandy roads perfect for hiking, trail running, biking, birdwatching and taking nature photography. There are several entrances to the park, including one at Links Golf Club. Once in the preserve, there are nine different trails to walk. Be sure to print a map to follow as you go. Practice hiking safety, including proper dress, sun and bug protection and hydration.

Black Run Preserve hosts community events throughout the year, including fundraisers, guided hikes, yoga, community clean-up days and mountain bike clinics. Check the website for a full schedule.
