Want to discover a little family-friendly Christmas magic this December? You might want to head to Dollywood for Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas.
The theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, situated in the Smoky Mountains, is known for its holiday time extravaganzas, having won accolades for its events more than a dozen times in the past. This year, the 160-acre property lights up more than 6 million Christmas lights as part of the event, which runs through Jan. 1, 2023. But what else can you expect beyond the lights, which include a bevy of new light displays, for 1 million more lights than in past years?
Every Friday and Saturday through the season, the theme park will launch a fireworks display over Dollywood, set to contemporary holiday music. Visits from Santa are on tap until Christmas. Throughout the park, Christmas-themed shows are set to run. Parts of the park have also been transformed into a glacier-set, arctic landscape. If you’re hungry, you’ll find holiday favorites throughout the park’s restaurants. For the full experience, stay on site at Dollywood DreamMore Resort and Spa.
And if you can’t make it to Dollywood for the holidays? Make sure to book tickets for a 2023 visit now, when the theme park plans to open its longest roller coaster yet.

Clear nights in Texas allow for some of the best stargazing opportunities in the country. In spring, various locations across the state provide dark skies to not only see distant stars but also the Milky Way as it rises in the Northern Hemisphere. In fact, on April 8, 2024, Texas will offer prime viewing for the total solar eclipse, which will take place over Mexico, the United States and Canada. This eclipse will cover some areas of Texas in total darkness for more than four minutes, nearly twice the duration of totality during the 2017 eclipse.
