Research, Research, Research
Before setting off on your adventure, make sure you do some research on getting to the entrance of the landmark, as there are a couple different ways you can reach it. Travelers can either do a four-day hike through the Inca Trail, hike from the bottom of the mountain in Aguas Calientes or take a bus ride up most of the mountain to get to the circuit entrances. Each option includes a different amount of hiking/climbing, so you have to decide which one is right for your abilities and needs. If you choose to take the bus up, make sure to buy a bus ticket beforehand or you won’t be allowed to board.

Choose a Circuit
Next, you’ll have to decide which circuit is right for you: Circuit 1 just gives you access to some of the best panoramic views of the mountain and the ruins; however, you won’t be able to go down and actually explore the ruins. Circuit 2 is the most popular, offering stunning views of the mountain and ruins. This circuit also allows you to go down and walk through the ruins, giving you a better look at the Inca methods and construction. Circuit 3 is similar to Circuit 2, but you will be able to explore and get a closer look at the ruins and how the royals lived. Just like bus tickets, you’ll have to decide which circuit you want to do beforehand in order to buy tickets ahead of your trip.
Timing is Key
There are timed entrances into the landmark, so that is another decision you’ll have to make. Going earlier in the day is more ideal.
