Destinations / Europe

Did you know Cyprus has a whopping 64 blue flag beaches? These are beaches that receive global recognition for cleanliness and ecology, and despite Cyprus’ relatively small size, the island nation is home to many of these areas, inviting travelers to soak up the views and sun, as well as try out a range of water sports and activities.

Whatever you’re in the mood for, there’s a beach for you:

For Windsurfing and Kitesurfing

Cyprus enjoys consistent wind and sea conditions year-round, but the Larnaka (Larnaca) beaches of the Mazotos/Kiti villages are particularly ideal for these two activities. In fact, these beaches are some of the best for windsurfing and kitesurfing in the Mediterranean!

For Sailing and Yachting

A variety of sailing races and regattas take place throughout the year, but leisure yachters also enjoy community and facilities at the island’s two marinas, five ports and numerous bays. Sailing and yachting is a great option in Cyprus because of favorable temperatures and flat waters, as well as a lack of pollutants.

For Diving to See Shipwrecks, Underwater Sculptures

Cyprus enjoys one of the longest diving seasons in the Mediterranean. Wreck diving around the island is popular, particularly with ships like Lady Thetis and Costandis, the latter purposely sunk in 2014 to create an artificial reef. One of the most important sites, however, is MS Zenobia, which sank in 1980 on her maiden voyage carrying millions in cargo. Diving enthusiasts can also visit MUSAN, the world’s first underwater sculpture museum, featuring more than 90 pieces of submerged artwork.

For Water Sports

On any of Cyprus’ public beaches, you’ll find a large number of licensed water sports operators offering lessons and rentals for tube rides, water skiing, jet skiing, wakeboarding, SUP, canoeing, kayaking, flyboarding and more.
