The 148th annual Kentucky Derby takes place May 8 and The Galt House Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky, kicks off the festivities with a weekend full of special programming.
Plan your derby weekend getaway with the hotel’s Derby 148 package. The three-night stay offer over derby weekend includes exclusive access to the welcome party, derby keepsakes and in-room gifts. Start the weekend off right at the Call to the Post Welcome Reception. Held May 5 4–7 p.m., the festive welcome party includes complimentary hors d’oeuvres, beer, wine and a custom Woodford Reserve Bourbon bottle keepsake. In addition to the cocktail hour offerings, guests may take part in activities including a bowtie and cigar station, jockey meet and greet, betting stations and live entertainment.
Reese Witherspoon’s southern fashion brand Draper James will host a pop-up shop at the property May 5–8. Choose from floral dresses and bold sun hats to show off your best derby-style outfit. Take part in a wine tasting from Jackson Family Wines and a bourbon tasting with Old Forester Bourbon, Michter’s, New Riff and Heaven Hill. Don’t forget to try a signature Mint Julep!
The Galt House Hotel is home to several food and beverage outlets to enjoy during your stay. Sample Kentucky bourbon at Jockey Silks. Swizzle Dinner & Drinks, a retro-style dining club on the property’s 25thfloor, also offers an excellent bourbon selection with Louisville skyline views.
