A revitalized cultural center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is creating a great venue for appreciating local arts.
The new YSB Square (Yayasan Seni Berdaftar, a cultural foundation established in 1983) is set inside the Ampang Hilir quarter, one of the best-preserved colonial neighborhoods in the city. Small rooms, galleries, terraces and outdoor courts comprise the compound.
The arts center helps YSB meet its goal of transforming from a typical charitable arts foundation to an incubator that aims to help bring Malaysian arts to the forefront of commercial success. The center opened in mid-2017 and is expected to fill the 2018 calendar with weekly traditional performances, live contemporary music, stand-up comedy and art workshops. Other activities like yoga classes and spa services will also be offered to help bring in funds for the organization.
Craft fairs will be a part of the regular programming too, as well as holiday bazaars selling both crafts and food items.
