Nestled in northern Italy is the beautiful Lake Garda. It’s the largest lake in Italy, known for its crystal-clear waters. The surrounding towns are picturesque and contain many buildings that are traditional Italian architecture. Some of the towns have castles and historical structures that are exciting to explore. Many of the towns offer boat tours and other adventures in the lake for travelers. The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly, similar to the rest of Italy. Some travelers spend days driving through the different towns and discovering the hidden secrets of Lake Garda. It’s a wonderful introduction to the beauty of Italy.
The most popular sights around Lake Garda include the town of Sirmione and Riva del Garda. The town of Sirmione is home to the historic Rocca Scaligera Castle. It began as a Roman building, rebuilt in the 13th century. The castle was created to be a fortress to protect the town from intruders. It is surrounded by water on all sides from Lake Garda. The only way to enter is by crossing the massive drawbridge. Inside there is a museum that has exhibits explaining the fortress and its historical background.
Riva del Garda is a vibrant Italian town and a popular spot for tourists. It’s at the end of the lake with mountains rising on either side. The town itself is gorgeous and has long winding streets and waterfront squares. There’s not much to do in this idyllic town, but it’s a great starting point for travelers.
