LGBTQ: Cuernavaca, Mexico

Since the legalization of same-sex marriage in Mexico City, the regions have seen an influx of LGBTQ+ travelers looking for a relaxing vacation. Cuernavaca, or the City of Eternal Spring, is the perfect destination for those seeking warm weather and a welcoming atmosphere.

The small city of Cuernavaca is not exactly a gay mecca, nor home to a vibrant nightlife, but the cozy town near the mountains is something of an artistic haven for the open-minded. It’s a great place to explore local culture and relax among some spectacular scenery.

Savoy Sammana is one of the more vibrant dance clubs in town and boasts a large LGBTQ+ clientele, while Enigma is the place to go for excellent drag shows. Those in need of a quieter night on the town will enjoy the laidback atmosphere of Barecito Café.

When you’re hungry be sure to grab a bite to eat at Sanborns. The popular restaurant is located near the center of town and features a diverse crowd, beautiful architecture and a friendly vibe. The food isn’t bad, either. Los Colorines De Cuernavaca is another beloved eatery in town and is the best place to go for authentic Mexican cuisine. It’s pricey, but well worth breaking the bank.

Take time to explore some of the highpoints of the city, including the cathedral, the Amanalco Rift and the Garden Borda Museum. Outside the city limits you’ll find plenty of adventure and scenic views. The region is home to thousands of colorful prairies, volcanoes, mountains and rivers – it’s an outdoor lover’s dream destination.
