Canada has always been a step ahead when it comes to LGBTQ+ rights. That’s why Edmonton is a fantastic place to travel. The lively gay scene here is small, but welcoming to many.
Alberta’s capital city is down to earth and contains some of the best cultural attractions in the country. It’s home to a bevy of museums, the largest mall in North America and some incredible nightlife. Its location in the heart of the Canadian Rockies also makes it a great destination for outdoor lovers.
Gay Edmonton is centered around the downtown area in Jasper West, where most of the gay bars and clubs can be found. You’ll also find a lively community situated around Whyte Avenue, a popular spot for the students of nearby University of Alberta. Most of the clubs in town have LGBTQ+ nights, but Evolution Wonderlounge is the most popular gay nightclub in the city. During the summer the city also hosts an annual Pride Parade in Churchill Square. The same night, the Womonspace Pride Dance takes place alongside numerous events at the local bars. There are also tours of the famous Devonian Botanic Gardens for the LGBTQ+ community.
Edmonton has no shortage of great festivals. The Fringe Theater Festival performs more than 1,000 plays in the summer, while the Winter Festival celebrates Aboriginal heritage in the cooler months. Of course, outside the city limits you’ll find the North Saskatchewan River Valley, which features 93 miles of trails to explore.
Alberta’s capital is one of the most welcoming places for LGBTQ+ travelers in North America and a must for anyone who appreciates diversity.

United Continues Its Global Expansion
United Airlines keeps soaring to new heights, recently announcing another expansion of its leading global route network. The airline added new non-stop flights between Newark (EWR) and Marrakesh (RAK), Morocco; Tokyo (NRT) and Cebu (CEB), Philippines; and Houston (IAH) and Medellin (MDE), Colombia. That’s not all: United also plans to increase flights to popular worldwide destinations including Hong Kong (HKG); Seoul (INC), South Korea; and Porto (OPO), Portugal.
