Trends / LGBTQIA+

Nice is widely considered the second-most gay-friendly city in France, behind Paris. Though not as large as some of the other getaways in the country, Nice has such a large presence of LGBTQ+-focused venues that it stands out above the rest.

In terms of nightlife, Nice doesn’t disappoint, with a variety of establishments offering music and drinks for both straight and gay visitors alike. RED Kafé is a popular choice among the LGBTQ+ crowd with its outdoor seating and short walk to the beach. Le Couloir is a small bar full of friendly faces and a great place to and relax. La Cave Wilson is where the party is at, and often hosts quite a large crowd in the evenings.

Throughout the year, Nice also holds numerous LGBTQ+-themed events, from the annual Pride festival to Queernaval, the gay carnival which features costume competitions, parties and a variety of shows. A handful of LGBTQ+ film festivals are hosted in Nice throughout the year, as well.

When you’re not busy hitting the clubs and beaches, there’s also plenty of wonderful attractions in Nice to explore. Castle Hill provides wonderful views of the town and seaside if you’re willing to make the climb, while the Promenade de Anglais is the perfect way to take a stroll along the city’s shoreline. Be sure to check out the Place Garibaldi, a charming little square full of fountains and restaurants located right near the gay district of Rue de Bonaparte. Finally, do not miss out on the market in Cours Saleya. It’s the liveliest market in town and an excellent place to mingle with tourists and locals while you shop.
