Orbitz declared Saugatuck, Michigan, one of the hottest gay destinations in 2019. The charming harbor town on the state’s west coast is home to a thriving arts community and an array of LGBTQ+-friendly businesses.
Miles of beautiful beaches and rolling sand dunes make it a top destination for outdoor fun, while the historic downtown is one of the best planned in the state. Saugatuck is also home to The Dunes Resort, the largest gay and lesbian resort in the country. It features a disco and bar with a massive dance floor, cabaret and a game room. The tiny town also has several world-class galleries and museums. Together with nearby Douglas, it boasts more than 140 gay-owned and -friendly businesses.
Saugatuck houses the world-renowned Ox-bow Art School and a summer stock theater and an annual community Pride Festival. During the fall season there are numerous wineries and apple orchards surrounding the town to explore. Of course, you’ll also want to spend time at the world-renowned Oval Beach.
