If you consider yourself an avid foodie, you’ve probably planned a trip or two around the culinary experiences to be had in certain destinations. However, have you ever planned a trip centered all around just one fruit?
A new travel experience series from Tourism Malaysia will help you do so. The series highlights what the organization calls “the King of Fruits,” a.k.a. the pungent durian. The series includes more than 60 tour packages from nearly 30 tour operators situated across 12 Malaysian states.
Experiences on offer include options like a durian tasting and traditional lunch, as well as trips to restaurants renowned for the use of durian. Some offerings are packaged with other, more intensive experiences, like river cruises, jungle treks and multiday excursions.
“The launch of these packages highlights the increasing popularity of both the Malaysian durian fruit and food tourism,” said Akbal Setia, vice president, Tourism Malaysia Americas. “Durian tourism thrives in Malaysia, particularly during the harvest season from late May to August. This trend underscores the fruit’s allure and cultural importance, with the new Tourism Malaysia packages offering visitors a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in local traditions. Our destination’s new experiences also offer food lovers the chance to explore different states across Malaysia for our durian trails.”
