Master Lock has been synonymous with security since our school days when we slapped a padlock on our locker to keep secrets safe and secure. The Master Lock 5900D Portable Safe lets you take that security on the road, making sure your valuables are protected anywhere you go.

While the safe is small, it has enough room for your smartphone, passport, jewelry and cash. Many of the components are plastic, so it won’t hold up under extreme duress but the shock-absorbing foam interior keeps your items safe during use. The compact size means it can be tucked away just about anywhere and it comes with an easy-to-use cable to secure it to fixed objects.

This safe is designed to be water resistant, but that doesn’t make it waterproof — your belongings will be okay if you spill some water on it, but don’t plan on submerging it.

The lock is easy to set to any four-digit number of your choosing and Master Lock provides a great tool for managing your combinations at so you don’t have to panic if you forget your combination.

The safe comes in three colors — white, pink and gunmetal gray — and retails for about $30, but can currently be found for a starting price of $13.99 through Amazon Prime.

Taking It Back to Basics at Ghent’s Gruut Brewery

Breweries are everywhere today and, while many craft and microbreweries specialize in particular styles of beer, few are quite as specialized as Ghent Gruut Brewery in Ghent, Belgium. Here, the current craze for hop-heavy India Pale Ales is entirely eschewed as absolutely no hops at all are used in the brewing process. Before you clamor to claim this can’t be beer at all as everyone knows the four ingredients of beer are grain, water, yeast, and hops, consider hops weren’t actually added to beer until the 13th century. Before then, all beers were flavored with herbs and spices, or gruut, as the French population of medieval Ghent called them.
